London recs for a New Yorker's first visit

I will be visiting London for a week, starting this Saturday. I’m very excited, since it’ll be my first time there, and I’m looking forward to eating some good food during my trip.

I will be staying near the Tottenham Road tube station, but am more than happy to travel out of that area within reason (in fact, I will also be in Greenwich for a night, so would welcome recommendations there as well). I eat fish and seafood, but no meat. I’m looking for restaurants that serve good food in nice, hip but unpretentious settings. Given the relative weakness of the US dollar, I’m particularly interested in suggestions that are moderate to cheap.

While in London, I’m hoping to have some kick-ass Indian food (since everyone is always telling me how much better it is there than in New York), some awesome fish and chips, and a good vegetarian English breakfast. I also know that London has of late become a thriving restaurant town, and I’d be curious to try some of the places that you all see as exemplary of its new culinary offerings—especially ones that have good options for vege/pescetarians.

Any more general recs about good areas for eating would also be much appreciated.

Thanks, all!
