We will be in London for the first week in August. I've read tons of posts about pubs and gastro-pubs. What this American is wondering...are there any pubs that also have live music, comedy, local bands, etc? Is this the norm or the exception? I found one pub, Builders Arms, that has quiz nights, jazz bands and a piano player. Any comments on this place?
Are there any others in the South Kensington area (or within public transportation)? Anything but techno...not looking for a dance scene, just good food and local talent, a fun evening. This trip is more than just museums and landmarks. My husband is from Canterbury originally, and is really looking forward to being back in England. He loves traditional English food (I love the ale) so we should both be happy in pubs for meals.
This message board is fabulous. I worked at a 5 star restaurant for 15 years, and I want our dining experience in London to be the best, but I don't mind a soggy chip or a bland pie now and then. It's part of eating out.
Also, are there any guides that match up good reasonably priced food and the attractions? I'm trying to plan to eat meals near museums, etc.
