London - Polish cuisine at Baltic, Southwark

klyeoh | Mar 22, 201102:13 PM

Baltic is a largish, beautiful restaurant (albeit a bit noisy) churning out some great Polish food. It's conveniently situated across the road from Southwark tube station, along Blackfriars Rd, and spitting distance from the absurdly popular Anchor & Hope down the CUT.

Last Wed evening, we ordered:
- Pierogi: fried potato & cheese dumplings, served with Smietana sour cream dip;
- Pelmeni: small boiled dumplings filled with a mixture of veal & pork, topped with chives & crisp-fried shallots;
- A very well-executed rabbit casserole served with spaetzle noodles. This has got to be the moistest, tastiest rabbit I'd had in a long while!
- A platter of Kaszanka (blood pudding), Polish sausages & cured ham on a bed of sauerkraut.

Really enjoyed the meal. Pity that they seemed to have removed all the Polish items (Nalesniki, Szarlotka) from the dessert menu.
