As it gets to be spring and then summer, my husband and I spend a lot of time making the trip from Queens, NY to New London to visit my family.
We're always on the lookout for great places to stop for bites along the way. And are wondering if there's anything new that has opened this past winter (or old) in Southern Ct that we should put on our itinerary.
Our top choice that we've found in New London - is not a restaurant - but the wonderful Thames River Wine and Spirits www.thamesriver.com/wine This wine shop is terrific on so many levels. The space, staff and selection each on their own would constitute a must see - but taken together the three make the shop a real wine lovers and foodie paradise.
Next door to the shop is a food and cheese shop/bistro so you can take your purchases from the wine store and have them paired with menu items.
The bistro/wine shop regularly host themed dinners for about $50/per person. We haven't been to one yet but we're hoping to make it to at least one this season.
If anyone has any input on these places or any other real finds in the area - please do post.
