I went to Lolita last night and enjoyed every single bite. But let's get the discomfort out of the way - it was LOUDER THAN HE**! Sat sorta near the kitchen - but seems to me that the whole place was loud. I am talkin' LOUD! Phew. there. that's done. move on to the grub.
Started with the guacamole with jicama and it was nutty and creamy a slightly chunky and perfectly spiced. Also had the grilled calamari stuffed with chick peas and chorizo - there were five of them and each one was tender and the stuffing superb. Came on a bed of chick peas and chorizo and a serrano sauce which was pleasantly fiery. For entrees my dining pal had the butterfish - which to my surprise was a steaky fish (I thought it was a little flat bugger - so a white flakey fish) with some fruit action that was tendy and juicy and great. I had one of my new favorite dishes in the world: "enchiladas verde" with jack cheese, a green mole, shitake mushrooms and some grilled chipotle shrimp. Aesthetically it seemed a bit , well, messy, but flavor wise, it excelled - you could taste everything in every bite - oh and there were beans and rice too.
We split a chocolate flan for dessert. I don't need that again.
We also had the watermelon margaritas, mixed with our reposada, which were fantastic. Our server was charming and great. Atmosphere - loud - and only a touch too dark in the back of the house. would have liked to have seen my dinner. oh and the salsas: excellent chips and a tomatilla/cilantro salsa with a tomato salsa too which I loved.
I'd go back in a heartbeat. And I have the menu scanned in now so if you want it, drop me a note.
