Met up with friends for lunch at the newish Lola 55 in the East Village at 13th & F. Wow, what a great lunch. We ordered all 9 tacos on the menu and all 9 of them were good. Some were clearly better than others, but there really wasn't a dud among them. 3 of the tacos are vegetarian including a knock out carrot adobada and excellent stuff squash blossom and rainbow cauliflower tacos. The spicy fish taco really is spicy having a salsa made from the Carolina Reaper chile.
We also order the elote which was a very generous serving of corn, mayo, crema, chile powder and lime juice. I thought it needed more lime, but I certainly had little problem eating it :-). We finished with churros which were, sugary and crispy on the outside and soft and still a bit too wet on the inside.
All in all it was an excellent lunch and unlike many other places that have been hyped to death before opening, Lola 55 really does measure up and deserve the hype it's gotten. Parking isn't easy, so ride share or trolley down, but do give it a try. I was not disappointed and do plan on going back on a regular basis. They do have a full bar with a nice selection of quality tequila and mezcal
