for a little celebration, we went to the lodge steakhouse on la cienega. what fun! great service and great people watching, and extremely comfortable chairs.
started with peppered ahi sashimi accompanied by a small green salad, delish. the dressing was asian style, tasted like it had rice wine vinegar. good quality fish.
we both at the bone in filet mignon, which was great. I ordered mine medium and it was a tad overcooked. But the flavor was very good. I also ordered the house steak sauce and a creamy horseradish to accompany and both were very nice. I mixed them a little in the corner of my plate and was *quite* satisfied.
as sides, we had the broccolini with lime, garlic and red chili flakes. very nice but needed salt. additionally, we had the sauteed mushrooms which were lovely.
husband ordered some kind of dessert, but with a belly full of steak, I just don't have a huge sweet tooth.
overall, I give the food a B+/A-, but the service was GREAT!!!! Extremely attentive sommelier and the waiter might have polished my shoes if I had asked him. I merely inquired if they had bleu cheese stuffed olives for my martini and, unbidden, he asked the kitchen to stuff a couple for me. I was charmed.
Problem: it was v cold. I don't mind slightly chilly temperatures, but it was too cold for the wine to open. When we started out bottle of pinot noir, it was lovely. We were looking forward to drinking it after it had been decanted for awhile. Honestly, it was so cold it tasted worse after it had been at the table for 20 minutes because it got colder. Bummer.
