We had a chance to check out the new regime at the Locust Tree in New Paltz and were very happy with it. The owners are a wonderful young couple, Barbara (the chef ) and her husband Robert. We decided to try it out by ordering from their Tavern menu, the only other option is a prix fixe $35 3 course deal in the main dining room. I started with a lightly curried cauliflower soup that was fine and then had fried whitebait with lime aoli and my wife had jumbo grilled shrimp with an avocado mixture on top of an excellent tomato confit. We then split an entree, mushroom duxelle stuffed savoy cabbage with a lasagna made from butternut squash and spinach $12., served in a large bowl with great broth and peanut sized potatoes and asparagus. This was actually vegan and so good that we ordered one to go for our vegan daughter. Service was friendly and attentive and my wifes desert of chocolate egg was super. We will be back soon to try the full dinner. I think this place is worth supporting.
