My husband and I had a wonderful dinner at Locanda Verde last night. Our only quibble, and it was our own fault, is we unintentionally had a $96 steak.
After being seated, perusing our menus, and munching on some delicious warm foccaccia, our charming waiter recited two specials - a mussels appetizer and a rib steak for two. We were prepared to order the chicken for two at $21 per person, but my husband loved the sound of the steak and since he thought our server said it was $48 he thought we should try it, so we did.
When we got our check it turned out the steak was $48 per person - a $96 steak. I guess we misheard or misunderstood. In any event, if you are thinking of ordering one of the specials just ask your server to repeat the prices so you aren't surprised.
That said, every aspect of our meal was excellent.
The wine list was pricey, but we decided to get a bottle of the Prosecco Drusian Brut NV for $45. It sells online for around $15. It was very nice, dry and crisp but not too sweet. A very good choice if you like prosecco.
For an appetizer, we split an order of Grandmother's Ravioli, which we thought was just a perfect dish. Pasta was paper thin and light, meat filling was tasty, and the tomato sauce was heavenly. Loved it.
The steak was delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare as requested. We got the salsa verde sauce that came with it on the side, and preferred the meat without it for the most part. The dish came with crispy fried potatoes and arugula with fresh grated parmigiana . Very satisfying on a bitter cold night. Couldn't eat it all and brought home about $30 worth of meat.
We split La Fantasia Ciocalletta for dessert and had cappuccino. The gelati in the dessert were good. Next time, and there definitely will be a next time, I would try one of the baked goods.
I was hoping to catch a glimpse of Andrew Carmellini, but he wasn't in. With tax our check came to $199.24. We'll be back, but next time we are ordering the chicken.
