Looking for a source for locally grown pecans in or near Austin. Tried for farmer's market yesterday and no luck. Also went to the pecan/gift store south of Austin on 290 but would like to go directly to the grower. Any ideas within an hour of Austin would be appreciated. Thanks.
Not as close, perhaps, as the above link. But Seguin is just short of an hour south of South Austin and home to both the World's Largest Pecan and, more relevantly, to Pape Pecans.
I've gotten them at the Sunset Valley market on Saturday mornings, and I'm pretty sure I saw them last weekend.
I also recommend the Sunset Valley Market. There's a guy there who appears about a month before Thanksgiving all the way through Christmas, so that may be who chrischris saw. The guy I am thinking of is from Georgetown, and I think his operation is called Georgetown Pecan Company. He has several varieties (Cheyenne, Mohawk, Kiowa, etc.), and he will let you sample the different varieties. They are always perfectly fresh and full of oil, and make a delicious pecan pie. He is often sold out by around 11 when it gets close to the holidays.
The last two Saturdays, there have been pecan growers at Sunset Valley, and they're fantastic.
I have plenty of in shell pecans. Bagged up and ready to go. And located mins from downtown Austin if your intrested
n\Not Austin but Potter's Pecans has a web site. They apparently have pecans dusted in something tha takes them taste like red velvet cake.
