I used to buy a delicious whole barley natto miso that contained kombu, ginger, and a few other savory ingredients at Rainbow Grocery that was a great flavorful complement to vegetables and grains, but it isn't carried any more.
Some web research tells me this isn't just a hippy concoction, but a traditional, if unorthodox, "chutney" form of miso that is a combination of grains and soybeans. Does anyone have a good local source? I don't remember seeing this at local Japanese markets, but I haven't looked for it specifically.
