Best local BBQ THIS YEAR ONLY! (Long)

Where have you had great BBQ this year?

I am limiting the topic to THIS YEAR ONLY because these places come and go.

So far this year for me (in order of preference)

Buz and Ned's in Richmond is so good, it's almost worth the drive from Fairfax City (100 or so miles). We may never try another place when visiting Richmond. Everything there was excellent, and a great beer selection.

Mighty Midget in Leesburg. Always delicious, but be aware that it's in the fuselage (body) of a smallish airplane, so it's actually incredibly tiny, only room for one person inside, the cook. There are a few picnic tables outside. We just eat in the car. Hours are limited, check to make sure they're open, we've been disappointed more than once to find them closed, but never disappointed by the chow.

Lefty's in Waldorf, we all liked it a lot, but have only been there once. I don't think they have beer. Well worth the drive from Fairfax City.

Red, Hot and Blue. Apparently this is not "real" barbecue, I have been told, they don't use the right equipment, although I suspect that most urban BBQ joints don't, either, due to EPA regulations on smoke emissions. We probably eat at the Fairfax City location once a month. They have really good beer, the sides are good, what's not to like?

Jammin' Joes just north of Warrenton on HWY 29. Honestly, we thought the Q was just OK. The meat just did not have a good smoky flavor, the ribs were extremely dry, and the sauces were too sweet for us. But others rave about it.

Dixie Bones. We used to love it, the last visit thought it was just so-so. We will go back to see if it was just an "off" day.

Ben's Whole Hog in Manassas. We ate there around New Year's, were not impressed. The place has been bought by some very nice Koreans who apparently are cooking by rote, it just doesn't have the real BBQ flavor.
