I'll be visiting NO in a couple of weeks. Staying 3 days. Will be traveling alone. Staying in Garden District with no car.

Looking for fairly inexpensive local type fare, casual atmosphere. Definately don't need white table cloths. I'm thinking of sticking with po boys, muffalettas, gumbo's and etoufe (sp?).

I plan to hit central grocery, am open to any other suggestions. Question1; Is a bowl of gumbo in New Orleans typically an appetizer or entre portion?

Question2; Etoufe. My wife makes one (from Emeril's recipe) that's aweseome. But it has the consistance of a gumbo. My memory from many years ago in NO was not a gumbo dish. What form should etoufe take?
