With my wife's pregnancy we have been forced to miss our annual trip to Maine this spring, and we are both really missing some serious no-frills lobster eatiｎg. What we're looking for is a fun, very informal spot that takes their seafood responsibilities seriously but won't kill off our bank account. A place with a minimum amount of City Island-like tourist trap-yness.
What we want is a couple 2 lb. lobsters, recently alive and freshly out of the pot, with a nice mess of steamer clams to start. Seating can be outdoors (which might even be preferable), perhaps near some water, and plates can (and should) be paper. Maybe some beer or wine would be available, or no one would mind if we brought our own. Within reasonably easy driving distance of Park Slope, of course.
I've seen Nick's out on Flatbush near the Rockaways bridge and Jordan's in Sheepshead Bay (off Knapp somewhere?) mentioned in passing here. Are either or both of those places what I'm looking for? Which is better (has better lobsters)? Or do I have to go further out on L.I. or up to CT to really find this?
