Where to live (and eat) in Chicago

FJ Young | Jun 18, 200201:50 PM

My girlfriend and I are moving to Chicago soon from New York. Being New Yorkers, we don't like to drive much (though we will have a car), so we want to live somewhere where there is lots of good eating.

Actually, where we live now (in Park Slope Brooklyn) is a terrific neighborhood but the restaurants leave a lot to be desired, as is frequently bemoaned on the New York Outer Boroughs boards.

We are zeroing in on Lakeview and Andersonville as possible neighborhoods. Foodwise, where would we be better off? Am I right in suspecting that Lakeview restaurants are more about the scene than the food? And how far apart are these neighborhoods, anyway? (I know...about 3 miles...but do people ever walk from one neighborhood to another?)

Thanks in advance for your help & whatever advice you care to give to this fish out of water!
