Four of us dined at Literati II last Friday. Dishes sampled: bruschetta with octopus, an appetizer of grilled sardines, roasted figs with walnuts, steak frites, New York steak with fennel salad, lemon tart with fried lemon slices and blueberry ice cream, churros with bittersweet chocolate sauce. Delicious, every last bit of it. After a watery/icy mishap with the next table's wine bucket, our waiter - a charming young South African - brought us four large glasses (one bottle, we figured) of a fantastic South African red, gratis. The decor (aside from that silly book-spine sculpture and a few overly Ettlingered faces) is quite attractive. We were there for a good 2 1/2 hours and there wasn't a hint of the bum's rush. This place is terrific.
