Which liquor for soaking fruitcake?

vjb | Aug 24, 202107:07 AM     32

I've been soaking my dried fruit in brandy for almost two years (because I didn't even try to make any fruitcake last year). I have made fruitcake only twice, and both times I soaked it in brandy following the Willis Davidson recipe. But I was wondering whether to use rum or bourbon to soak the fruitcake. I'd love to hear the arguments for and against brandy, rum and bourbon as the liquor for soaking the cheesecloth.
