I was doing midday errands at London Drugs near Joyce when I accidentally let lunch slide (how is that possible ???). The hunger pangs became hard to ignore and I had to get somethin' to eat ASAP. Sure there was Honolulu Cafe, Gold Train Express Pho and a good dozen restaurants on the other side of the road just waiting for my lunch coins. But dammit the CH in me had to try a new and different place. Looked to my right, what's this "Lingering Flavour" business (my schoolgirl giggles of the name took a few mins to fade ....). Hmm, must check out.
Turns out they're a very casual (think commissary) Taiwanese eatery where you order at the counter. High square tables with traditional Chinese/Japanese stools .... hmm maybe they're not so makeshift afterall. I couldn't decide from the two dozen or so choices of rice, noodles, dumplings etc, but eventually Jia Jiang Mein (noodles with fried meat sauce) caught my fancy. It came in a fairly large paper bowl (guess the Royal Doultons were in their dishwasher) filled with steamy noodles topped by a mound of thick, rich brown meat sauce, soy beans and diced firm tofu. Very tasty. Noodles were al dente firm, not quite handmade but close. Julienned cuke, coriander and green onions provided decoration. Very satisfying bowl of JJM, had no hint of MSG.
How come I never been here before ?!? I guess their location is not highly visible unless you are walking into/out of LD.
I will be back.
