As part of our efforts to give Limster a worthy send-off, we're organizing a dinner at Dasaprakash in Santa Clara. Melanie Wong wrote about it a couple of months ago, and the most recent review was written two weeks ago by Shocker on 5/02. (A link will be provided below.)
IMHO, Dasaprakash may well be the best Indian food of its kind in the Bay Area. I'm no expert on Indian food (and would sincerely welcome help from a native eater), but I can say that is one place in the US where the food is every bit as good as it is in its country of origin.
It is best to clarify that Dasaprakash is not a tandoori and nan sort of place. You won't find the rich sauces and meats of Northern India. What you will find is a wonderful, if less familiar, cuisine: a rich assortment of breads and vegetarian dishes that will satisfy the most dedicated carnivore through its sumptuous textures and flavors. You can't eat at Dasaprakash and not want to go back.
So, to all the old and new Chowhounds out there who want to try something truly special, please e-mail me and let me know if you can join us on Saturday 1 June. We currently have 8 places left. (Estimated cost: $18-20, including tip. At those prices, one can afford to get a subscription to Chownews!)
