Light dinner on the patio at Red House

Finally a glorious day, so Scrapple and I planned to meet at Red House early to grab a patio table. For starters, some confusion ensued with the maitre d' about whether or not you can sit at a table if your entire part hasn't arrived and whether or not you can have 'just drinks' on the patio. We did end up at one of the 8 tables and the setting IS pretty charming, especially considering the dearth of al fresco dining in Harvard Square. We started with the grilled shrimp--rather ordinary, but sitting on some nice white beans -- and the grilled vegetable napoleon which had too much flaccid mozzarella and rather boring veggies -zucchini and yellow squash- sitting in a dollop of tasty fresh tomato sauce. The glasses of Pinot Grigio (from CA and from Oregon) were cold and delicious. (Quite a few affordable wines by the glass on the menu.) Excellent key lime pie for dessert with a nice thin and crumbly graham cracker crust. Sweet, but green waitstaff: They rushed us --whisking away a wineglass with a rather large sip left (don't worry I yelped in time) and putting down the check within seconds of serving dessert! No, we were not yet ready to vacate our place in the sun. Will we return? Yes, because we love to eat outside in summer. Will it be for the food? Not so far, but I'm willing to give the kitchen more time.
