LI Butcher for Short Ribs, Lamb Shanks and Related Accessories

Kosher Hounds,

I am throwing a party and might braise short ribs or lamb shanks, or both. A few questions:

1. Are kosher spare ribs and kosher short ribs one and the same?
2. I plan to purchase the meat at I&D Glatt in West Hempstead. I actually was going to drive to Great Neck on Sunday, but I was stopped by a blizzard. My office is approximately 10-15 minutes from W Hempstead and 25-30 from 5 Towns. Is there a butcher in the 5 towns worth the extra shlep, with either superior meat or cheaper prices for the same stuff?
3. Do you think I and D sells freshly ground spices (cumin, coriander, nutmeg) and items like tamarind paste, beef/chicken stock...? And most importantly, Williamsburg pickles (Flaums will do as well) If not, where in the 5 towns can I find this stuff? (I know where to get that stuff in Great Neck).
4. Is there an equivalent store anywhere in LI that compares to Pomegranate in Brooklyn, specifically in regards to homemade fresh humus/dips and herrings/smoked tuna...
