Dinner at L'Explorateur is always such a pleasure for us. We sat at the bar, my favorite place when it's just Mr CF and I, and there's a new menut to (ahem) explore. Neil was working in the bar Saturday night too, making a great time even better.
Amuse:Wild striped bass cake wth a saffron sauce. Neil made a very funny comment with this - "I asked John, 'so we're giving away saffron now?'". Umm... yes...
I had my usual Hamachi appetizer. I really like this, it's been on the menu awhile - so even though it's a new menu, there are some that stand the test of time.
Mr CF had the Scallop ceviche - he said it was excellent. As good as the one he loves in Los Cabo.
We both had a Steamed pork bun with a sauce made from reduced braising liquid and soy with quick pickled red cabbage. If you like steamed buns - run to L'Ex!
Sweetbreads with green olives & braised greens for me and good too. I really liked the greens
Snail ravioli - I know this wasn't what it was called on the menu, that sounds awful... But it's ravioli stuffed with snails and a broth with truffle oil. I didn't try this, I'm allergic to shellfish and the fact that snails live in shells mades me shy away from them, but Mr CF liked them! I had a bite of the pasta with the oil and it was delicious.
I had the Halibut with chorizo, dried figs and a red pepper couli/tomato sauce. The Halibut appeared to be wearing a high fashion coat of chorizo slices (maybe I should get one!), and ohmigosh - this was great!
Mr CF had the Kobia... I didn't take any notes here so I don't know what else was with it. This happens towards the end of dinner - I completely forget to finish the note!
We had dessert and coffee - Banana/chocolate pudding brulee with candied nuts and a
Lemon cream with homemade lady fingers. I'm anxiously waiting for the strawberry shortcakes, but these were very good too.
Thanks for listening!
