Lewis Orchard in Montgomery Co. - peaches and more

One more recommendation for today – an outstanding farm stand on Rt. 28 in Montgomery County near Poolesville. It is the Lewis Orchard, which has an incredible peach orchard that they have just started to harvest, with many varieties available as they become ripe. I have headed up to this spot several times a month during the summer for years because of their amazing peaches, and their other homegrown veggies. They also have numerous apple varieties in the fall.

The prices are terrific – a 2-qt. Box of peaches (about 16 peaches) today was only $4.50, though the price goes up a bit when the white peaches come in (they told me to start checking next week for the white peaches). I bought 4 qts. of peaches, 6 ears of corn, 1 small eggplant, about 1 lb. of perfect green beans, 1 pattypan and one zucchini squash, 3 cucumbers, 1 cantelope and 3 tomatoes (the only thing they hadn’t grown themselves – theirs are due in 10 days or so) for just under $20.

They also sell a variety of sweet and hot peppers, onions, potatoes, watermelons, and boxes of various “seconds” at prices that will leave home canners in ecstasy. It’s one of those places that deserves to be visited because they sell their own produce and do it well!
