This is a new one. I bought a head of red leaf lettuce and did my usual: rinsed, soaked, and put it through the spin cycle in the lettuce laudromat. It was gritty. I did it again. Still gritty. Chagrined, I dumped everything into a stainless steel bowl and soaked it. Hours. Rinsed. Put it through the salad spinner one mo' time. Made a salad and wowzers, bit into something so gritty I thought I would crack a tooth. Not pleasant. (The tooth is fine, but it was an unsettling experience.)
My new food commandment is: thou shalt not waste time, energy and calories of food you don't like; although the last item (calories) isn't a factor here. I've admitted defeat and thrown the whole thing away.
Defeated by a red leaf lettuce. That has never happened to me before. Has anyone else ever had this experience: the lettuce that would not get cleaned off?
