Letting culinary serendipity take its course... --- My first trip to New Orleans

Just a matter of hours now until my first trip to New Orleans, and I couldn’t be more excited. For quite a while now, I’ve heard what a great food town New Orleans is supposed to be, and I’ve always wanted to check it out for myself. Yesterday, coming to the realization my summer’s winding down and it’s almost time for me to go back to NYC for the fall, I figured what the heck, time for an impromptu trip!
So my family and I booked a random hotel, packed our bags, gassed up the car, and will be making the ~8 hour drive right after I get out of work tomorrow evening, and staying until probably Tuesday.
After going to school in NYC for a couple of years so far and always looking for great places there that I’d like to try (and currently having a list of almost 200 places there on my “Need to try” list, many of them thanks to ideas from sites like this one :), I figured for this trip we should do things a little differently.
So rather than trying to map out every single meal on every single day, we’ve decided to do the complete opposite --- plan absolutely nothing. No research. No reservations. Nothing. We’re just going to let culinary serendipity do its thing. Let our eyes, ears, noses (and stomachs!) guide us where they may.
There’s not a very specific point to this post, except to say that I’m looking forward to visiting your beautiful city, and I’ll be sure to give a full report on all our food adventures once we get back!
