I'm somewhat intimidated after all the hoopla here about the new Michelin and on CH about Savoy and starred places, but I have to speak up for those of us looking for new chefs, doing fine cooking at prices I find affordable. A few weeks ago, one of my readers alerted me to L'Escudella in the 7th, which I had passed up when it opened last year because it sounded too Spanishisy. Silly me. It is very French and the crab rolls, beef chorizo, shaved beets, poitrine de porc, pintade, mashed potatoes and version of Paris Brest were as good as I and my dining partners who live nearby, have had in a long time. With two bottles of wine and coffee, the bill came to 48 € pp. the best of 2017 but there are many days left.
