Les Deserteurs, grace under pressure

mangeur | May 2, 201401:07 AM

Last night, tiny and brand new Les Deserteurs demonstrated its class. Continuing the no-choice format and pricepoints as Rino, it seamlessly accommodated one nearby diner who ate no fish or meat and another who simply pointed at the first three courses on the menu and proclaimed, "I don't like, I don't like and I don't like." How nice it would have been for these diners to have announced their needs sf booking, or at least before accepting a table.

But back to the food. Smoked eel on slices of mushroom and potato, two spears of the currently ubiquitous asperge, roast lamb with miniscule spoon of potato puree and tapenade. Very nice praline glace based dessert. Pleasant wine suggestions.

Les Deserteurs is trying hard and succeeding for the most part. It is very possible that we brought along our own ghost of Rino, and certainly were put off by the imperious demands of our neighboring tables.
