Ledo's & Tiffin

Andrew | May 11, 2004 01:08 PM

Went to the original Ledo's in Adelphi the other night, and their menu has expanded to include more traditional and homey Italian dishes...different pastas and chicken dishes, nothing revolutionary. Anyhow, having not been able to try all of them, I can say they're doing an admirable job with what they're serving. Also, after a stretch where the franchises seemed to be putting out better pizzas than the original, the Adelphi location is back on track with their pizzas.

***I do not say this to rehash the great debate over the best pizza in the area...some people don't "get" Ledo's, and that's fine. Others who know and like Ledo's will be happy to know the pizza seems to be "back" in Adelphi. Nothing more, nothing less.

Also, if Tiffin isn't cranking out the best Indian food in the area, it sure is near the top of the list. As far as my favorite dishes go, butter chicken (chicken makhani) and mutter paneer, they're out of this world. For the chicken makhani, they must have recently revamped their recipe, because the butter chicken I got from there the other night was fantastic. Rich, bold, sweet, and spicy tomato gravy, delicious. And their mutter paneer is consistently excellent. The paneer itself is soft and obviously fresh. Their raita is way to watery, and some chicken tikka masala I had there was middling, but these are the only knocks on an otherwise superb Indian kitchen.
