Leda's cupcakes - How did they go? (long)

grace | Oct 28, 200508:04 AM

So after all the recommendations, I special ordered 15 mini cupcakes in chocolate raspberry and white chocolate chocolate. I was extremely excited and let my four friends know that we would each feast (or at least get to snack) on little chocolately cupcakes. (;

Sadly to say, when we busted them open and started noshing on them, I was a little disappointed. Maybe it was because I had driven 1.5 hours in nasty traffic, the 4.5 hours of sleep I had gotten the previous night, or all the hype, but I was a little let down. They were still good, but they didn't make me want to profess my love to them while licking my fingers.

It may have also been that I am usually not a big buttercream/frosting fan, and on the mini cupcakes, the buttercream/cake ratio wasn't as appealing as it might've been on a regular sized cupcake. I did find the cake part to be quite tasty and rich, although with the buttery sweetness of the buttercream, it was a bit drowned out.

The chocolate raspberry cupcakes were much better than the white chocolate chocolate ones, IMO. I feel like it was the white chocolate chocolate ones that brought down my opinion on the whole. One of my friends also agreed that the chocolate raspberry ones were, "WOW! SO GOOD!"

It's odd though, because although I didn't find them as exceptionally amazing as I expected to, I managed to scarf down 4, which I'll just say equals one full-sized cupcake.. Hopefully! lol. (; They're oddly addicting.. which the mini size is good for then. I could eat a whole box load and not feel TOO guilty.

The presentation is great - my friends and I oohed and ahhed at the perfect shapes and the tiny butterflies and flowers that adorned them. We even ended up taking a ton of pictures of them, one of which I've taken the liberty of including here.

Like I said, they're oddly addicting, and I'm already starting to crave them again. I have another birthday party to attend, so I might end up ordering a few more to indulge in. (; I'll make sure to try some other flavors, and let you guys know how they turn out. With all the other flavors, I have to find one I'm crazy about!

BTW, I was disappointed when one of my girlfriends said that she still enjoyed Sprinkles better. I know I should try Sprinkles before deciding, but from all the negative comments I've heard, they're just "meh."
