After visiting Las Vegas for more than 30 years, I finally got a chance for a latenight meal at this venerable ice cream and sandwich place on East Sahara. I went on a Sunday night, and it was packed, and a complete mess (none of the empty tables had been bussed). Service was slow and harried. My chili ("homemade") was horrific, but I was really there for the ice cream.

Sundaes are gigantic, so I got a child's sundae, which was the equivalent of almost two scoops. Like everything else at Leatherby's (I can't remember the last time I saw a black olive sandwich on a bill of fare), it was old-fashioned style. By today's standards, the ice cream is low-butterfat, but very fresh -- perfect for milk shakes and malts (forty cents extra!). The caramel, again by today's standards, tasted diluted. Both the ice cream and sauce weren't overly sweet, too.

I'd have to go back a few times to get a better feel for the quality -- does anyone know if any of the non-ice cream offerings are decent?
