Learning to Cook in the Time of Covid-19

masha | Mar 22, 202010:48 AM     17

The purpose of this thread is to help and inspire any novice cooks or folks who do cook but would like to improve their skills or increase their repertoire of menus. Fire away with your questions and confessions. There is no such thing as a stupid question or judgments as to why you are asking them.

I'll will kick things off by linking some of the prior CH threads that are tagged "Beginner Cook" as well as some other websites that may be of assistance.

CH Beginner Cook threads:

Also, we have a series post on CH called Weekly Menu Planning ("WMP") where each month hounds report on the meals that they are cooking (typically for dinner) that week, with descriptions and links to recipes. It may help inspire your menus. There is also a lot of food (and non-food) camaraderie. Here is the link to the current March 2020 WMP thread: https://www.chowhound.com/post/weekly...

Websites and other on-line resources

The NY Times Cooking website is a terrific resource with links to a lot of "how to" videos & narrative instruction, as well as specific recipes. It's behind a paywall but if you have a full subscription to the NYT, it's included in your subscription. The URL for the website is nytcooking.com. There is a webpage called "On what to cook in your first apartment" that may also be of use, https://cooking.nytimes.com/68861692-...

This CNN article may be useful. It also identifies other websites for basic cooking tutorials, etc. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/21/health...
