lead in Mexican glass?

Buford | Jan 28, 2006 03:17 PM

I have a cool Mexican drinking glass that I bought in a high-end shop in Los Angeles maybe twenty years ago. It seems like an artisanal piece rather than something factory made, and I believe it is called "bubble glass" for the obvious reason that there are bubbles in the glass. However, I have heard that artisanal Mexican glassware often has unsafe amounts of lead in it. I don't remember whether the shop advertised that the glass was lead-free, or even whether I would trust them if they did. Does somebody know the real story about lead in Mexican glassware?

Thanks very much.
