Went to Le Tableau (E.Fifth St. betw Ave A&B) last night w/ a group of four (a confluence of logistical concerns leading us to decide to try this place for the first time). Not very good. First, it was deafeningly loud, even by Friday night standards. We had to scream to be heard. Service was perfunctory. Not friendly, not rude. Food was average to poor.
An heirloom tomato salad w/ goat cheese was disgusting: mushy diced up tomatos drowned in thick sickly sweet balsamic dressing w/ goat cheese mashed and mixed in. Awful.
Chopped salad w/ feta. Decent.
"Lump Crab cake": was not made w/ lump meat, rather w/ shredded canned-tasting claw meat, and tastes only of lime, and was covered in a mushy avocado&corn salsa.
Filet mignon: solid, w/ scalloped potatoes which people in my party liked.
Didn't try the pork or chicken entrees but the others in other party seemed to like them
Bouillabaise: Bad. Bland tomato-soupish broth w/ lots of mussels and some rubbery calamari, but only trace amounts of salmon and monkfish that was promised. More like a tomato-moules starter than a real bouillabaise.
So, not a terrible place, but i'd be unlikely to ever return given the number of unsatisying dishes and the noise.
