Le Select Bistro: New Review

Marc Bernstein | Aug 2, 2005 07:24 AM

It has been a while since I had dinner at Le Select Bistro on Queen Street West. The last time I was there,(with my family for my niece's birthday) in January,2005, the food was not as good as I had recalled in the past. Many selections on the menu were quite second rate. The Bavette Steak: (I had that) medium rare: came back extremely well done, the fries were nothing special, service was cool,to the point of being cold. Last night, (my birthday) worse: my mother and a few others had ordered the Bavette Steak:Medium Rare, and Medium. I tasted samples: they were overcooked, really tough. The fries were blah. I had the duck. At first,it tasted so good. But,as I chewed on, the meat was tough, the sauce tasted old. There seemed to be an awful lot of fat (in the skin) inside the meat,(which I couldn't finish) later on, the overcooked, fatty Daffy Duck gave me heartburn!!! (Ponzios here I come!!!) Marche still is so much better. Not to mention Four Seasons Studio Cafe,Bloor Street Diner,Chez Piggy in Kingston,Domus Cafe in Ottawa.. The service was very rude. No Air Conditioning either!!! Coffee was good. (Oh,the chairs are for antiques, not people) To quote W.C.Fields: I'd Rather Be In Ponzios!!!
