Le Roy Jucep (Drummondville) report

CaptCrunch | Aug 19, 201508:57 PM

Hello people,

Tried Le Roy Jucep at Drummondville yesterday.

Le Roy Jucep is a 50's style diner (there are still parking spots where servers used to rollerskate the order in the car drive-in style) and is reputed to be the originator of poutine (there are a number of those but it is the most likely candidate IMHO).

The place is entirely renovated with taste in a retro fashion. There are a number of poutine choices available and I decided to try the classic. There is also an orange drink we identify in Montreal as "orange julep" that taste exactly like the one we know. Orange julep is a milky orange drink hard to define and almost impossible to replicate amongst those who've tried.

The poutine is really really good. The cheese is among the freshest I've seen (and I've been to the chip shop in front of the rivera cheese factory where they get it day fresh). The BBQ sauce is spectacular and probably the best I've tasted. Its sweeter than the traditional poutine BBQ sauce we know and has a tomato-y background instead of the beef we are used too. It makes me remember the BBQ sauce you get with your fries at the Burgundy Lion. I'll have to go back there to see if its as good. The fries are ok but they are not the best I've had (you can't have everything!). They were crisp but a bit less brown and sweet than I like.

Overall quite a spectacular poutine. Its not worth the drive from Montreal (its a bit too long for me) but if you are going to Quebec City from Montreal its totally worth the stop.
