Le Petit Delice

At last night's benefit, I had a chance to taste some jewel-like mini French pastries made by Alain Pisan, the very French proprietor of Le Petit Delice. When he sold his pastry shop in Ohio after 15 years, he moved to the Wine Country and began a baking company here. He's looking for retail space but does not currently have a shop.

I tried the Passion Fruit Tartlet and Le Pistache shown in the photo linked below. They were both exquisite. The tartlet has a buttery, almond-flavored cookie-like crisp base topped with a pyramid of sublime passion fruit mousse. The Pistache was even more decadent, featuring pistachio-flavored cream floating over a sumptuous chocolate ganache middle laminated on delicate almond genoise. The bittersweet, earthy chocolate is Weiss.

These little treats are priced at $15.75 per dozen and require 48 hours advance notice. Free local delivery is provided and there's a 10% discount on orders above 15 dozen.

Alain said that he will be launching a line of French cookies and ganache-based confections in the fall.
