Le Creuset - size and shape to buy?

spygrrl | Mar 24, 2004 04:13 PM

Between Caplan Duval and all the listings on ebay, I really want to buy an LC oven. But I'm not sure which one to get.

I make a lot of pot roast style meals here in Chicago in the winter, with usually a 3 pound roast. Does anyone know what size would be good for that?

I've heard oval is somewhat necessary if you make a lot of chicken dishes. Anyone have any other reasons to recommend the oval over the round? Or vice versa?

I would like to eventually have 2 pots - one smaller, like in the 4.5 - 5.5 qt range, and one larger - in the 7 - 8 qt range. What size do you have, and what do you cook in it?

My biggest issue question is, will the 4.5 be big enough or should my first piece be 5.5?

Also, does anyone have a 9 or 9.5, and what do you use it for? There's a guy on ebay who sells them with no reserve and recently they were only selling for about $ 140! I'm trying to figure out how I could justify buying it LOL.

Finally, if anyone can recommend a good cookbook dedicated to soups - preferably for beginners - it would be much appreciated.

Sorry for all the questions - just hoping to get as much detail in your answers as possible :-)

Thanks so much,
M
