On a recent trip to Paris the best meal we had was just outside Paris in Orsay. We were tricked into going to the place by a friend who told us it was absolutely traditional French cooking. If our friend had told us the truth we never would have gone. But with the first mouthful we were very glad that we had been tricked. The food was just astounding. The chef has an incredible sense of how to use bitter. The flavors were so seemless that I felt that every dish was perfect and couldn't have been better. I took some notes but I don't feel that I could do the food justice because it was so deliciously unusual. It is only open weekdays for lunch and Wednesday through Friday evening. The fixed price lunches were 39 and 62 euros with wine extra.
Its an easy 25 minute trip on the RER B4. Take the B4 to one stop before Orsay. Get out of the train and walk a block to your right. Its the first house on the right side of the street. Be sure to make a reservation.
