I had read about the $40 per person special at Le Bec Fin' garden room on the board and really wanted to try it. I called for reservations for Thursday, on Tuesday, and they were booked. (Kind of last minute but a special occasion came up). Reservationist said to call back next day. I did, and got 8pm for last night for 2.
First, the garden room is up stairs in the back of the restaurant, past their regular fancy chandelier laden room. The garden room was very nice, comfortable and lovely. Good lighting, decor and such. I was not dissapointed in the least on the atmosphere.
We ordered the scallops and the mushroom ravioli to start, the lamb shank and pork as a main, and the petite sampler and Grand Marinier mousse to finish.
Scallops were perfect & wonderful. Seared and caramelized on the outside and so tender inside. Perfectly complementary sauces.
Mushroom ravioli were amazing. My husband wondered how different mushroom ravioli could be from what he had previously had, he was wowed. The waiter said that they had a mushroom and chicken mousse inside. (We sopped up the sauce with bread)
The Lamb shank was phenominal. The meat was succulent. Tender and, again, the sauce! We got more rolls for that one.
The pork was extremely dissapointing. Granted it is hard to do white meat pork well, but this restaurant should have gotten it right. It was dry and had a fake smoky taste to it. I would not recommend that one at all.
The deserts were great. My husband loved the mousse. I liked it, but was glad that I got the sampler. It came with a key lime mousse cake, a layered fruit cake and an INCREDIBLE cheesecake.
All in all, I would absolutely recommend the garden room special. We had heard that they will be switching to their summer menu soon, so I hope that someone reviews that and we can get feedback as well.
PS: Question regarding the bill. On the bill it said Tip: and then below it was a space for Additional Gratuity: . Anyone know what this is for? If we wanted to leave more money, wouldn't we just add it into the tip?
