The Saturday release is featuring 24 mostly reasonably priced wines which are well-rated by the critics.
If the weather settles down, this will be a well-attended promotion, with predictable shortages
The wines are rated from 90 to 95 points on the Parker scale, and range from $17 to $168, most in the low $20's.
Pillar Box Red 2005, ($17.40) is called an outstanding value, and rated 91 by Robert Parker.
Although it is a wine of the month, distributed in quantity to all Vintages outlets, it could sell out quickly. The other wine of the month, a 2003 Cyan (Spain) is similarly priced and is worth persuing.
I tend to think the high scores (93-95) from one esteemed critic, Dr.Halliday, are a tad optimistic. But he does give a $19 Australian white (Stella Bella) 95, so that is a low risk purchase assuming it can be found.
Saturday will be an interesting day at the L.C.B.O.
