A shrine to Gerta Garbo. The food however, has less of that cool elegance and more of a heart and belly warming quality.
Lovely blini with a nice chewy texture, filled with salmon, trout and prawns, an interplay deliciously oceany flavours. On top, some sour cream and a nice spoonful of black caviar (not the "real deal") but no one would expect it that these prices. Still fairly firm roe and a few with a reasonable pop.
Looooved the beet deep borscht that came with the pierogi. Pierogi are also excellent - firm skins, not mushy, topped with a beautiful scatter of caramelized shallots. 3 types of filing - savoury pork; nicely sour sauerkraut and soft mashed potato firmed up with cheese.
Good cheese cake (medium density) with macerated berries for great contrast of richness and fruity acidity.
Thanks to CH buddy of mine that recommended this place.
