L'Auberge Chez Francois - Report

Went for dinner on Sunday night. (I called 15 minutes after the "appointed hour" 28 days in advance and missed out on the early seating for Saturday night.) I've been eating at this restaurant since it was on Connecticut Avenue downtown. (I was in college and my parents would take me when they came into town.) There are always mixed opinions about this restaurant but this was a lovely experience.

Restaurant was totally full but service was still excellent. Bread selection was good. Started with frogs legs. Delicate but great garlicky flavor. Caesar salad that was not ordinary - nicely presented with a variety of ingredients including an anchovy and coarsely grated cheese. My husband and I shared Chateaubriand for two. Meat came as requested - medium rare with a standard selection of veggies. Wine was a Chateauneuf-du-Pape priced at a relatively reasonable $50. Sorry, can't remember the year. Dessert was a fabulous apple tart with cinnamon ice cream. Meal was a good value. About the same price as Obelisk -which I love. Cooking not as gourmet, but the total experience and much larger choice of foods made for a different but satisfying experience.
