Latin American Cafe empty- Mexicana Mama (?) full?

jen kalb | Jul 21, 200303:08 PM     1

Sat night we went to Mexicana Mama (the member of the Los Pollitos Group on Union St) by mistake instead of checking out Latin American Cafe, one block north, as intended.

Pleasant atmosphere, definitely majorly overpriced food, small servings. As somebody else commented, the $8 guac is ridiculous and pushed. $7.50 for a couple of tbsp of fish (if that) is silly too. Not actively bad, nice people but we wont be back in a hurry.

Walked around the corner to find Latin American Cafe afterwards - it was open but there was not a soul inside, in comparison to the scene on Union. Major construction going on up the block from there and construction sheds make it less than visible from the street?
What's going on and how is this place? it got some major reccs a few months ago so I was surprised to see so little patronage. Looks a bit like the standard hispanic menu til you look more closely and see the more ambitious dishes. Any recent news?
