Over the weekend my fiance and I were out scouting some places for just a quick bite rather than the more extravagent places we tend to regularly go (Roy's, Arterra, Flemings, Wine Sellar and Brasserie, Kensington Grill, etc.) here in San Diego.
First for late night (i.e. after 11 PM) these two places win hands down. Both are in Hillcrest and parking can sometimes be a challenge but beyond that, the two are gems for late night hunger pains.
City Deli is more a diner, than a true deli, but the food, service are never anything but comforting. Everything is solid, and while it's not gourmet, it sure hits the spot.
The second is Crest Cafe which is around the corner. Though it's open late, we opted to head their for breakfast the next morning. Great service, really good cooking, and an actual inventive menu.
Both places are the types of spots that you can escape from for under $25 for two...and worth every cent.
