This is pretty specific/tricky, so hoping the Chowhounds may have a few good recs...
I have an old friend flying in late next Wednesday (1/25) and need a place to grab a bite around 11:30, give or take. And L.A. doesn't offer too many obvious choices.
Doesn't have to be a sit down restaurant...a bar or lounge with a late night menu would be fine, and maybe even preferable. But here are a few of the particulars:
GEOGRAPHY -- Should ideally be in Mid-City or West Hollywood area, though Culver City is an option on the way back from LAX. Would go as far west as Robertson, but not much west-er. And could go east into Hollywood or Koreatown, but probably not so far as Los Feliz or beyond.
FOOD -- good would be good, but at that hour on a Wednesday I'm not being picky. Bar menu is fine. As long as the kitchen is open to MIDNIGHT OR LATER, as we may end up walking in right around then.
DRINKS -- to make matters trickier...I'd like to be able to hang and drink until 1 or 2, so a restaurant that serves until midnight but then shuts down is not ideal. Unless there happens to be a bar or lounge within a stone's throw that we could migrate to after.
ATMOSPHERE -- another tough one, as I'd like enough of it to show my friend a good time, but not SO loud that we can't talk and catch up. So not interested in anything approaching a velvet rope CLUB vibe. But I don't want an empty room either.
Thanks for any and all ideas. And why doesn't L.A. have more good late night options?
(P.S. I realize Downtown would offer more choices, but too far to travel with my timing.)
