Severe hunger pangs at 10:00 PM Friday. After reading the "praises of the masses" for the soft shell crabs at Honda-Ya, I decided to take a look see.

Crowded, noisy, hot and sweaty atmosphere. I decided to take a chance. My first instinct said crab, crab, and more crab. I started with an un-remarkable bowl of miso soup followed by crab croquettes. The croquettes are a mousse like filling that consists of crab, potatos and and cream, rolled in panko crumbs and deep fried. The contrast of the crisp panko crust and the creamy filling was quite pleasant, served with a ponzu dipping sauce, I quite enjoyed this.

Next came the soft shelled crabs. Served piping hot with a nice soft shell flavor, these were very meaty and delicious! Next I sampled the steamed crab dumplings. Another mousse-like filling consisting of crab, white fish and cream all lovingly wrapped in a steamed dumpling---thing. Not great food mind you, but not bad. And at 10:00 PM, it's as close to a little slice of heaven as you,re gonna get.
