Back from Las Vegas

Thanks for the responses I got to my query about Las
Vegas restaurants. Had a few "okay" meals and one
remarkable dinner -- at Bistro Le Montrachet, a
classic French restaurant in the Las Vegas Hilton.
The Caesar salad was okay, but the lobster bisque was
really wonderful -- rich, thick, lots of little bits
of lobster meat -- and the seared foie gras appetizer,
which I had as my main course, was probably the best
I've had. There were three small slices, perfectly
crisped, atop a small mound of mashed potatoes with
spinach, surrounded by a port wine sauce with toasted
pine nuts. Every mouthful was a dream -- salty and
sweet, crispy outside edges and buttery within. My
husband had a perfectly cooked steak with delicious
diced potatoes and barely cooked baby vegetables,
including bok choy. He was extremly happy.
The room itself was lovely -- intimate and well-lit --
the service was both warm and efficient, and the price
(at least as compared to New York) was right. Dinner
for 2 with a $45 bottle of St-Emilion was just a
little over a hundred bucks. (Neither of us had
dessert -- it would have been impossible.)
If you find yourself in Las Vegas, I think it's
definitely worth a taxi ride to the Las Vegas Hilton
(NOT the Flamingo Hilton)for dinner here.
