Went back to Larkspur after having been there for the first time about a month ago. I reported on it along with several others back on June 12. It's always a little scary to go back to where you were blown away on a first visit -- always wonder if it was really as good as you thought. Well, this one is.
The first time we went there was hardly anyone there. This time, July 4 at 7:30, the place was packed. We were promptly seated and very pleasantly surprised when our server turned out to be Anne, same as last time. She is magnificent! So was the food. My wife started with a Bibb lettuce salad with blue cheese. I had the appetizer of pork belly with a melange of summer beans. Both appetizers were excellent.
Main courses were halibut and veal scallopine, both of which were truly outstanding. The veal was some of the finest I've ever tasted. We finished up with a six-chocolate tasting plate that is over the top. (See my 6/12 post for details.)
We've been spending some time in the Vail Valley for several years and have eaten in most, if not all, of the upscale rooms there. If our two meals during the past month are representative, Larkspur is currently the best in the valley. Go when you have time to take your time and ask for Anne. You will not be disappointed.
