Lares - the worst dining experience I've had in LA.

critical | Mar 7, 200601:12 PM

Went to Lares last night with a group of 6. We'd been reading so many good things from fellow Chowhounders that we finally had to taste it for ourselves.

The much touted shrimp soup was in a watery broth with no vegetables, the quesidilla was limp, stuffed with watery cheese and rubbery shrimp. The Cammarones Diablo (shrimp wrapped in bacon) was also rubbery, and the bacon flabby. The tortillas were clearly overheated in the microwave and the moment they came out of thier wax paper, it immediatly turned into a hard frisbee. The pork that we've read rave reviews about were like dry chunks of roasted pork that was being rehydrated in a soupy red sauce that tasted straight out of a can.

What a horrible meal combined with horrible service. We were really disappointed in this experience and am sorry we wasted a night out on this worthless joint.
