Thanks to all of you who recommended dishes for my visit to Lao Sze Chuan. My friend and I went yesterday in honor of the Chinese New Year, and the food was great - probably because I had so many good suggestions. We wound up ordering the Boiled Beef, the Chef's Special Chicken with Dry Chili, and for counterpoint, the non-spicy pork with pickled vegetable. We also were intrigued by the Chili Platter (listed under Hot Appetizers), which turned out to be a plate of chilies, mostly diced (the charred red ones were whole), and served hot (having been stir-fried). This was great on rice. Everything was wonderful, though it was a shame that our beef came last, because by then we were pretty full and couldn't do it justice. We passed up the potstickers, because as they were served to a neighboring table, we could see that they were too large - enormous, actually - and we both prefer a higher ratio of wrapper to filling in our pot stickers.
We had to wait in line about 45 minutes, but it was worth it. I have a new respect for Lao Sze Chuan, and am looking forward to going back.
